2:00 a.m. Wake Up Call

It was 2:16 a.m. when we heard what has become an all too familiar sound these days. It came from a certain someone who's 33 inches tall and weighs in at a hefty 22 pounds. I know lots of people are up at night with babies, but this baby is 15 months old. He's been an angel sleeper since he was 4 months old. But in the last two months we've had our fair share of middle-of-the-night wake up calls. It usually goes like this:
Bodie cries for several minutes.
Bacho and I both toss a little, but don't say anything.
Then Bacho asks, "Is he hungry?"
Then I say, "I don't know. Maybe it's his teeth."
Then we both get out of bed because we feel too guilty to let the other one get up while we snuggle back into the covers.
Then we try whatever we can think of at that hour - patting his back, Motrin or teething tablets.

I don't think I can blame little Bodie though because he does have two big molars coming in on the top and another on the bottom. His mother is trying to get him off the bottle and he has frequent visits to the Kid's Club at the gym where they usually end up calling my name over the intercom to come to the Kid's Club because the workers don't know what to do after not being able to get near him for fear that his head might pop off from screaming so loud and shaking every time they get near him. Maybe it's my fault he's up at night. Maybe he's having Kid's Club nightmares.
Last night I felt a little guilty so I gave him a bottle. He drank 4 ounces, I took the bottle from him, walked out of the room and shut the door. Bacho was waiting just outside. We both stood in the hallway. Bacho rubbed my back as we stood in the upstairs hallway(that alone almost made the whole thing worth it)(not quite, but almost) and waited for our baby to stop screaming wildly. He finally did and we both crawled back into bed at 3:02 a.m.

Oh man- I feel for ya. Porter is getting his top two molars too. Runny nose, cranky, and up at least once a night. It will end soon & then all the rest will come. :)

Thats too bad he's not sleeping as well as he used to, but getting your baby teeth in sounds pretty painful and no fun. Its kind of intereting Im learning at what age baby teeth start coming in :) so it was fun to read your post.

Oh, I know what you're going through! I just hope for your sakes that he outgrows it before 2 and a half! Addy still wakes up screaming several times a night with "night terrors". When she doesn't wake up screaming, she sneaks into our room and freaks us out! Oh, the endless joys of parenthood!

Ugh... that sucks - but his cute little face makes it worth it -- right??? Hang in there, and I say that being so motherly and all (hahahah).

Just wait 'til it's two of them! I swear I haven't had more than three hours of sleep in a row the last three weeks due to Violet rebelling from her lovely 11-6 sleep through the night routine and Cora figuring out the freedom of her big girl bed. Aggh! I have big plans for them to try to get more sleep next week, but I hate the thought of just making them cry, so we'll see how it goes. I'm sure Bodie will settle back into his normal routine soon!

Oh the things I have to look forward to. I know I will be the same way, waiting at his door. Poor little guy, he's lucky to have such a great mom though. I hope your pregnancy is going well. Let me know if you need anything.

Oh Staci, I totally feel for you. You have a few months of wonderful sleep and then boom, there you are up in the middle of the night. Brooke is four and every once in a while screams like crazy because she thinks a lizard is coming through her window. I think it just goes on and on. Just get some sleep when you can. Before you know it, you'll be up ALL the time with the newborn. I wish you all the best :~)
